How to Donate Crypto from a Ledger Wallet (Step by Step)

A Ledger hardware wallet keeps your private keys offline, and nothing leaves it unless you physically approve it on the device. That makes it one of the safest ways to give: you see the charity's address on the Ledger's own screen before you sign. You send using Ledger's companion app, Ledger Live (renamed Ledger Wallet in recent versions). Here's how.

Before you start

  • Your Ledger device, its PIN, and the Ledger Live / Ledger Wallet app on your computer or phone.
  • The app for the coin you're sending installed on the device (for example Bitcoin, Ethereum, or Solana).
  • Enough of the network's native coin for the network fee — for instance, a little ETH to send USDC or USDT on Ethereum, or TRX to send tokens on TRON.
  • The charity's donation page open for the payment address.

Menu names may vary slightly by app version, but the flow is the same.

Step 1 — Get the charity's address

On the charity's donate page, choose an amount and coin. The checkout shows the exact payment address, the network it expects, and the amount to send. On TraceGood you can also pick Other coin or network to pay with any of 200+ coins and networks at checkout. Keep the page open.

Step 2 — Start a Send in Ledger Live

  1. Open the app and click Send.
  2. Choose the account to send from. For a token such as USDC, pick the token under the account of the network it lives on — that network must match the checkout.
  3. Paste the charity's address into the recipient field, or scan the QR code on mobile.
  4. If the checkout shows a memo or tag (used by coins such as XRP and XLM), add it in the tag/memo field.

Sending on the wrong network can cause the funds to be lost. When in doubt, match exactly what the charity's donation page shows.

Step 3 — Enter the amount and fee

Enter the amount shown at checkout and choose a network fee level. The fee goes to the blockchain's validators or miners, not to Ledger or the charity. A higher fee confirms faster; the standard setting is fine for a donation.

Step 4 — Verify on the device ⚠️

  1. Connect and unlock your Ledger, and open the coin's app when prompted.
  2. The device displays the recipient address, amount, and fee. Compare the address on the device screen with the one on the charity's checkout — character by character at the start and end at least.
  3. If everything matches, approve on the device. If anything differs, reject.

This check is the whole point of a hardware wallet: the device screen can't be altered by malware on your computer.

Step 5 — Verify your gift on-chain

The signed transaction is broadcast and confirms within minutes. Open the operation in the app to see the transaction ID and view it on a block explorer — your verifiable receipt.

Quick tips

  • Trust the device screen, not just the computer screen.
  • Never enter your 24-word recovery phrase anywhere to make a donation. No charity or checkout ever needs it.
  • Keep native coin for fees — tokens can't move without it.
  • Send a small test first if you're moving a large amount.
