Which Cryptocurrency Should You Donate? A Practical Guide

If you hold more than one cryptocurrency, you might wonder which is "best" to donate. The short answer: the best coin to donate is usually the one you already hold and want to part with — but a few practical differences are worth knowing.

Bitcoin (BTC)

The original cryptocurrency and the most widely recognized. Bitcoin is a great default: deeply liquid, accepted everywhere, and easy for a charity to convert into funds for its programs. Network fees vary with demand, so for very small gifts the fee can be a noticeable percentage.

Good for: larger gifts, donors who hold BTC, maximum recognizability.

Ethereum (ETH)

Fast and widely supported. Ethereum fees ("gas") fluctuate with network activity. For mid-to-large donations the cost is usually minor relative to the gift.

Good for: ETH holders, donors comfortable with a major, liquid asset.

Stablecoins (USDT, USDC)

Stablecoins are pegged to the US dollar, so $50 of USDC is $50 — no price volatility between sending and settling. This removes a common worry: that the value will swing before the charity converts it. On low-fee networks, stablecoin transfers can also be very cheap.

Good for: donors who want a predictable dollar value and low fees; recurring or planned giving.

Litecoin, Dogecoin, Solana, and others

These often have low fees and fast confirmation, which makes them attractive for smaller donations where Bitcoin's fee would eat into the gift. Liquidity is good but varies by coin.

Good for: smaller gifts, donors who already hold these assets.

Privacy coins (e.g. Monero)

Monero offers stronger transaction privacy. Some donors prefer it; note that fewer processors support it and conversion can be less straightforward.

A simple way to decide

  1. Donating appreciated crypto? Giving the asset directly (rather than selling first) is often the most tax-efficient — see our guide on crypto donation tax.
  2. Want zero price volatility? Choose a stablecoin.
  3. Making a small gift? A low-fee coin means more reaches the cause.
  4. Not sure? Bitcoin or a stablecoin are safe, widely supported choices.

Whatever you choose, the principle that matters most is transparency: every gift should be verifiable on-chain. At TraceGood you can donate in Bitcoin, Ethereum, USDT, USDC, Litecoin, Monero, Dogecoin, or Solana — pick your coin and give.

Turn crypto into care

Every gift is an on-chain transaction you can trace from your wallet to the field.
