Which Charities Accept Dogecoin (DOGE)? A Verified List

Oct 1, 2026 · 5 min read · The TraceGood Team

Dogecoin has one of the most generous donor communities in crypto. It also has one of the thinnest lists of charities that genuinely support it.

Both things are true at once, and the reason is worth understanding before you send anything.

Every organisation below was checked on 1 October 2026 by loading that organisation's own page. Not a directory, not a press release, not a search summary. Where we could not confirm something from the source, we say so rather than guess.

Coin lists change without anyone announcing it. Treat this as a snapshot with a date on it, and check the page before you send.

The short answer

Organisation Takes DOGE? How
The Tor Project Yes Self-hosted BTCPay, own addresses
charity: water Yes Own published addresses
Free Software Foundation No BTC, LTC and XMR only
GrapheneOS Foundation No BTC, XMR, ZEC, ETH, ADA, LTC
Mozilla Foundation No Policy excludes proof-of-work

Two organisations on that list take Dogecoin directly. That is not a small sample producing a thin result — it is the result.

The distinction that actually matters

When a charity advertises "over 100 cryptocurrencies", that number is almost never a decision the charity made about each coin. It is the inventory of the donation processor it signed up with, and it changes when the processor changes it, without anyone at the charity editing a word.

Dogecoin is the clearest case of this in the whole sector. It appears in a great many charity coin lists, at roughly position 40 in a dropdown, and is sold for dollars within minutes of arriving. Organisations in this position include Lutheran World Relief, Animal Charity Evaluators, Dogs for Better Lives and Project K-9 Hero — all reachable for DOGE, all through the same intermediary rather than a wallet of their own.

That is not a scandal. Auto-converting is a defensible treasury policy, and volatility is a genuine problem for an organisation with payroll. But "we accept 137 cryptocurrencies" and "we thought about accepting your coin" are different statements, and only one of them is usually true.

The two that take it directly

The Tor Project lists BTC, DOGE, ETH, LTC, XMR, XLM and ZEC, each with its own address and QR code, charged through BTCPay. BTCPay Server is self-hosted software rather than a custodian, so the coin reaches Tor rather than a company acting for Tor. Tor has said in the past that roughly a fifth of its individual donations arrive in cryptocurrency, which makes it unusual among organisations of its size.

charity: water publishes its own addresses for bitcoin, ether, litecoin, bitcoin cash, Zcash, filecoin and dogecoin. It is the one clear example we have found of a humanitarian organisation — not a software or privacy project — running its own wallets rather than routing through a processor. It converts to fiat on receipt, which it says openly.

If you want your Dogecoin to arrive as Dogecoin, those are the two we can currently point at.

A correction worth making

You will find plenty of pages, some of them recent, reporting that Mozilla accepts Dogecoin. The headline is real and the claim is out of date.

Mozilla did begin accepting DOGE in late 2021. In January 2022 it paused cryptocurrency donations entirely after sustained criticism about the environmental cost. In April 2022 it said it would resume, but only for proof-of-stake cryptocurrencies, explicitly excluding the energy-intensive proof-of-work coins. Dogecoin is proof-of-work. It is excluded by that policy.

We were not able to load Mozilla's own donation help page on the day we checked — it refused our request — so we are reporting the documented policy rather than a fresh reading of the page, and we would rather flag that than imply a check we did not complete.

The pattern is the point. A claim gets made once, gets repeated by people who did not check, and outlives the fact by years. The same risk applies to this article, which is why it carries a date.

Two organisations that do not take it, and are often said to

The Free Software Foundation publishes its own addresses for Bitcoin, Litecoin and Monero. There is no Dogecoin. It is also unusually candid about the limits of what it offers, noting that because it uses a single address for all contributions, it is not providing full anonymity.

The GrapheneOS Foundation publishes its own addresses for Bitcoin, Monero, Zcash, Ethereum, Cardano and Litecoin. Again, no Dogecoin — despite being exactly the kind of self-custodying, privacy-focused project you would expect to find it at.

Both are worth naming because both get swept into "crypto-friendly charity" lists where the specific coin is never checked.

Before you send DOGE anywhere

  1. Open the organisation's own domain. Not a directory, not an AI answer, not this page.
  2. Find the coin list. If there isn't one, you are looking at a processor's dropdown.
  3. Look for an address or a processor name. That single detail tells you whether the charity receives the coin or a company does.
  4. Look for a date. An undated crypto page is often several years stale.
  5. If they claim a public ledger, open it — then click through to a block explorer and confirm a transaction actually exists. Almost nobody does this step, and it is the one that finds the broken links.

Where we stand

TraceGood accepts Dogecoin, alongside more than thirty other coins and networks. Every confirmed donation appears on our public ledger with a link to the transaction on an independent block explorer, so a DOGE gift can be checked by anyone, not just by us.

We are also a newly founded organisation whose registration as a non-profit association in Estonia is not yet complete, and donations to us are not tax-deductible anywhere. We would rather say that plainly on a page like this than let a list quietly imply otherwise — our About page carries the full position.

Run all five checks above on our donate page, our accepted coins list and our ledger. If you find something wrong here, or an organisation's page has changed since we checked, tell us and we will correct it.
